He is a nine month old rottweiler puppy with a fantastic temperament and a sweet heart. He is a well behaved boy who was bred in NY state. By the time he was 8 months old however, he had already developed severe canine hip dysplasia and the vet recommended surgery. His radiographs were sent to a terrific animal hospital called the Heritage Animal Hospital in Dundee, Michigan where an extremely kind hearted, gifted and generous orthopedic vet named Dr. Cornprobst operated on his hips, performing a bilateral FHO. Finnegan was admitted Monday, December 29th to Heritage Animal Hospital in Dundee, and operated on the next day. I visited him today with my husband and he was sore and swollen but ever so sweet. Although Finnie has only known my husband and I for a little more than a week, the precious pouch got up and walked towards the door to leave with us halfway through the visit. The vet tech said she had never seen a dog his size that had had a bilateral FHO walk so soon after having the procedure. The vet tech quickly retrieved a towel to support Finnegan's hind quarters to prevent him from experiencing any further discomfort and with my and my husband's help returned him to his clean and comfortable kennel, which was stocked with fresh water and wet puppy chow. Finnegan is a brave boy and is eating already. His kennel mate next door is a stray that has lived at the animal hospital for over a year and also underwent a FHO some time ago. The poor pouch had been hit by a car and was brought to the animal hospital for treatment. Since then, he hasn't wanted to leave and the hospital has adopted him as their pet.

Finnegan is well on the road to recovery and continues to be a huge inspiration, warming the hearts of all those fortunate enough to become his furry friend. May his health in the New Year continue to improve until he is frolicking freely again with his beloved brother Mulligan. I'll update this blog regularly to keep all interested readers abreast of his condition.

Happy New Year to all God's creature large and small.
